Working Group Chronobiology & Computational Biology

We develop statistical and mathematical methods with accompanying software, that help analyzing both high- and low-throughput biological data, and contribute to answer important biological questions.

We are especially interested in the mechanistic basis of genotype-phenotype relations in both model organisms and farm animals.

Chronobiology: the study of how the so called circadian clock – the inner timekeeper of animals – controls physiology, from cells to organs and behavior.

Aging: investigations of molecular and genetic basis, as well as the effects of animal aging, including effects on the circadian clock.

Specific methodologies include:

  • Genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics
  • Development of statistical methods for analysis of high-throughput data
  • RNA sequencing
  • Application of control theory to the study of metabolic and signaling pathways
  • Mathematical modeling, nonlinear dynamics, data analysis
  • Software development (R/Bioconductor, C, Mathematica)
