Abstract:
The development of piglets until the onset of puberty is not fully understood. However, precise knowledge of the onset and development of puberty in pigs would be of great importance for pig production. With the onset of puberty, some (but not all) male pigs develop a boar taint, which is perceived as unpleasant by consumers and rejected. The aim of this project is to identify biomarkers that can predict the onset of puberty before boar taint can be detected by the senses.
