Agroecology - European partnership on accelerating farming systems transition – agroecology living labs and research infrastructures

Contact: Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Klaus Wimmers und Silke Wollscheid

Duration: 2024-2030

Funding: Horizon Europe

Abstract:

The Agroecology Partnership, funded by Horizon Europe, connects 72 partners across 26 member states, associated countries, and third countries providing complementary funding. The partnership aims to support an agricultural sector enabled to meet the targets and challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, food security and sovereignty, and environmental sustainability, while ensuring a profitable and attractive activity for farmers. In particular, the Partnership pools the resources of the EC and the states involved to promote knowledge exchange and stakeholder dialogue, foster awareness of sustainability issues, and fund high-level research.

This research generates new knowledge and technologies aligned with the core themes described in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and current European strategies and policies: the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda, the European Green Deal, the Farm to Fork Strategy, the EU Biodiversity Strategy, and the New Common Agricultural Policy.

The FBN contributes to networking activities aiming at enhancing policy and governance for the agroecology transition.
