Abstract:
The aim of the planned research project is the molecular characterisation of phenotypically divergent metabolic types in cattle at the holistic transcriptome level. For this purpose, the "identification and characterisation of the role of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) in the gene regulation of metabolic processes in cattle" is targeted. More precisely, specific lncRNAs or their respective mechanisms of action are to be found, which influence the metabolism, nutrient conversion and energy distribution in cattle with divergent phenotypes. Furthermore, a deeper functional annotation of the bovine genome and transcriptome is expected as a result of this research project. In addition, it is conceivable that metabolic-type-specific expression signatures can be used for the development of biomarkers for the molecular diagnosis of corresponding phenotypes. This would enable improved methods for the selection and management of cattle with a view to improving resource efficiency.
