Abstract:
The overall aim is the improvement of housing and management conditions by developing breeding strategies for feed efficiency, metabolic health and environmental sustainability of dairy cows as well as optimization of feeding intensities and utilization of metabolic health indicators and sensors. The work carried out at FBN is dedicated to study the effect of 2 rations with different roughage energy content fed to German Holstein cows during 2nd lactation. By considering stage of lactation, energy intake, milk energy output, methane energy losses and plasma metabolites, an indicator for feed efficiency of dairy cows will be developed.
