The FBN will once again be presenting current research topics at the University of Rostock during the Long Night of Science. Visitors will be able to experience hands-on research at three stands. At the goat learning computer, interested parties can find out how the cognitive abilities of farm animals can be analysed. Goats can use the learning computer equipped with a touchscreen to prove that they can recognise conspecifics in photos. Visitors can also test this on site. Right next to it, the questions of what farm animals actually need to feel comfortable, whether pigs are helpful and whether cows have best friends are explored. Those interested can test their knowledge of animal nutrition in the feed quiz.
In physics, the "Stadt - Land - Stall" team presents itself as part of the extracurricular learning centres with an offer especially for families. At the Fraunhofer IGP, PhD student Nick Westendorff will introduce the topic of sound analyses in stables and explain how he can use AI to draw conclusions about the welfare of farm animals.
