The 70th Annual Meeting of the European Federation of Animal Science (EAAP) will take place from 26 to 30 August 2019 in Ghent, Belgium.

Prof. Dr. Cornelia C. Metges, head of the FBN Institute of Nutritional Physiology, together with Prof. Dr. Barbara Amon from the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) and Prof. Dr. Jürgen Zentek from the FU Berlin, will lead Session 27 on 'Animal farming for a healthy world'.

Animal agriculture -as it is practiced today- is associated with a wide range of environmental issues such as climate change, nitrate pollution of groundwater, deforestation, and spreading of antimicrobial resistance - all with direct consequences for human and animal health.

Thus, animal agriculture has to expand its mission from the mere task of producing animal based products to transition towards a circular bioeconomy including a comprehensive role in protecting and promoting human and animal health.

This session will discover and bring together different aspects of sustainable livestock farming and full nutrient recycling and link it to the “One Health” concept.
