Joint initiatives for teaching, promoting young talent and sustainable research

The Research Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) and the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today. The aim of the partnership is to systematically expand cooperation in the areas of teaching, promoting young talent and research, and to establish long-term sustainable structures for strategic cooperation.

With this agreement, both institutions are sending a clear signal for the strengthening of young scientists and for joint research activities on key future topics in livestock biology and agricultural sciences. These include sustainable production systems, animal welfare, One Health, resource efficiency, emission reduction, circular economy and value chains.

Focus on teaching and promoting young talent

An essential component of the cooperation is the close integration of academic education. Joint lectures and seminars, guest lectures and a structured internship programme with clear supervision and feedback standards are planned. In addition, bachelor's and master's theses are to be supervised jointly, and suitable doctoral projects are to be identified and accompanied together.

Joint research and knowledge exchange

In the field of research, the FBN and South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences aim to develop and acquire joint third-party funding projects at national and European level. The exchange of methods, data and infrastructure, as well as the organisation of joint workshops and seminars, are intended to further deepen the substantive and strategic cooperation.

Long-term partnership planned

Both partners aim to formalise their cooperation in a framework agreement and secure it for the long term. In doing so, FBN and FH Südwestfalen are laying the foundation for a close, reliable partnership that will benefit both scientific excellence and the practical training of young scientists.

With the cooperation agreement signed today, the two institutions are pooling their expertise and making an important contribution to the sustainable further development of research and teaching in the field of livestock biology.
