The FBN is a cooperation partner of the AUF in teaching and research. As an expert in livestock biology, it offers a unique research infrastructure for students, doctoral candidates and scientists.
The Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of Rostock will be exhibiting a model of an aquaponics system with a real African predatory catfish at its stand. The cycle-based and highly sustainable form of production aquaponics is a combination of fish farming in aquaculture and the cultivation of crops. Nutrients from fish farming are used to feed the plants.
The FBN is presenting the project “VerZi - automatic behavioral assessment of dairy goats”, which aims to improve animal welfare and health in livestock farming through automated herd observation using artificial intelligence (AI). This automated solution uses AI technologies to detect conspicuous animal behavior with the help of cameras in the barn. This provides farmers with an effective tool to objectively evaluate changes in animal behavior as a result of management measures and to take countermeasures if necessary.
The FBN will also be presenting its goat learning computer at EuroTier - a self-developed model with a touchscreen and monitor, on which visitors can complete the same cognitive tests as the goats in the learning experiment at the FBN.
You are welcome to visit us and find out about current research projects in the aquaculture and livestock sector, but also about new degree programs currently offered at the AUF, as well as doctoral and career opportunities at the FBN and the AUF. We look forward to your visit!
EuroTier has been held every two years in Hanover since 1993 and is organized by the German Agricultural Society (DLG). In 2022, the trade fair recorded more than 1,800 exhibitors and around 106,000 visitors.
