In addition to the FBN, the list of host institutions also included the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of Rostock, the Julius Kühn Institute for Breeding Research (JKI), the Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK), the State Research Centre for Agriculture and Fisheries (LFA), the state-owned Gut Dummerstorf and the two Fraunhofer Institutes for Computer Graphics Research (IGD) and for Large Structures in Production Engineering (IGP). Over the two days, the participants experienced the wide range of agricultural research in the region. In addition to the exchange of expert knowledge, potential collaborations and synergies were explored.
The FBN presented itself with on-site demonstrations on ‘heat stress in the barn’, an automatic feeder for calves, the ‘MethAnLAnd’ project, which is investigating the use of naturally occurring methane to power agricultural machinery, and research into the black soldier fly. The EU project BovReg, pikeperch rearing and the projects at the PhosphorCampus were also presented.
Further tours are planned after the premiere: the focus will be on the research facilities in the Greifswald region this autumn and the Central Mecklenburg region in spring 2025.
