Participants from various agricultural research institutions across the state used the two-day tour to gain insights into current research approaches, innovative practical examples and future prospects for sustainable agriculture.
The aim of the agricultural research tour is to strengthen collaboration between agricultural research and innovation institutions based in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The focus is on fostering links between academia, the field and other stakeholders in the agri-food sector, as well as on professional dialogue regarding current challenges facing agriculture.
During the tour, participants visited various research institutions and working farms in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Stops included the State Research Institute for Agriculture and Fisheries of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Agency for Renewable Resources, the Mühlenhof Zepelin as an innovative agricultural holding, the Gene Bank for Oil and Fodder Crops at the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research, Norddeutsche Pflanzenzucht, and the medicinal plant collection in the show garden at Wismar University of Applied Sciences.
The wide range of insights highlighted just how broad the scope of agricultural research in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is. From sustainable crop production, through renewable raw materials and plant breeding, to knowledge transfer and innovative agricultural practices, various research priorities were presented and discussed together.
The 2026 Agricultural Research Tour received a consistently positive response from participants. The opportunity for personal exchange, the practical on-site insights and the chance to forge new contacts within Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s agricultural research landscape were particularly appreciated.
