Identification of regulatory mechanisms for nutrient conversion in the metabolism of farm animals – contribution to animal-friendly nutrition that conserves resources
We research the conversion of nutrients in the metabolism against the background of the challenges posed by climate change, the emissions from animal husbandry and the changing requirements for our farm animals. An understanding of the various physiological and cellular solution strategies of animals in dealing with various stress situations enables us to develop approaches for animal-friendly nutrition strategies.
In doing so, we take into account the various husbandry and environmental conditions our animals are exposed to. We also examine the influence of the development and performance phase as well as the various agricultural systems in which farm animals live on their nutritional requirements and the capability to convert nutrients.
Our goal is to develop contributions that support economical, animal-friendly and resource-efficient farm animal husbandry.
