Keeping animals in a research institution constitutes a special challenge.
The veterinarian at the Research Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) bears overall responsibility for the health and wellbeing of all animals kept by the institute. This includes a regular evaluation of husbandry conditions and the preparation, implementation and review of animal health and hygiene plans.
Advising the scientists in the planning and execution of animal testing is another field of responsibility. Here the main focus is on gaining the maximum amount of knowledge with the least possible impact and influence on the wellbeing of the animals.
The veterinarian cooperates closely with the Animal Welfare Officer of the institute within the scope of administrative and practical animal welfare tasks.
