Departments

The departments at the Research Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) support the director with their central strategic, organisational and technical expertise. They report directly to the director and thus ensure close interaction with the Institute's management.

The Data Service Centre (DSC) accompanies the entire life cycle of digital research data at the FBN - from planning, collection and statistical analysis to archiving, data access and subsequent use.

Head: Dr. Anja Eggert

The central IT group is the service and coordination centre for the IT infrastructure at the FBN.

All research areas, animal experimental units as well as management and administration are integrated into a central Windows domain via a modern and highly available IT infrastructure based on a site-wide data network.

The site network is protected by a firewall and virus filter and connected to the DFN's new X-WiN science network.

The IT group is responsible for the following services:

  • Coordination and further development of IT processes with a particular focus on information security
  • Support and further development of the data network and securing communication services (e-mail and Internet) with high availability
  • User administration in central domains
  • Administration of software products and resources
  • Administration of hardware and software for commercial and administrative processes
  • Provision of central computing and storage capacities including data backup
  • Software development, especially database programming and support
  • User support at the workplace in the event of hardware or software problems
  • Printing of large-format posters

Head: Dirk-Michael Brosig

The department Science Management at the FBN brings together central support areas such as the library, press and public relations, research transfer, research funding and quality management, which act as a bridge between science and administration. With its strategic and proactive approach, it supports researchers and the Director in the further development of scientific structures and administrative requirements.

Coordination: Dr. Judith Lorenz
