The Institute for Muscle Biology and Growth investigates regulation and modulation of growth and metabolic processes and their consequences on structure and function of tissues. Research on developmental and growth mechanisms of muscle, fat and connective tissue including their interactions aims at providing knowledge for efficient and resource saving production of meat for human nutrition. A broad spectrum of modern methods can be applied to farm animals as well as to model organisms and cell cultures. An experimental slaughterhouse and a meat quality laboratory are integral part of the Institute and provide ideal conditions for sampling and data collection for scientific investigations of all Institutes of the FBN Dummerstorf.
