Reproductive fitness plays a decisive role in animal breeding for the maintenance of both animal health as well as fertility.
The Institute of Reproductive Biology is studying the underlying processes of reproduction at clinical, physiological and molecular levels, and comparing these in the context of genetic variation as well as under different environmental conditions (management, feeding, climate, etc.).
The aim is to define reproductive phenotypes and develop appropriate biomarkers representing new molecular targets for animal breeding which are relevant for health and fertility, as well as offering new criteria with which to assess and optimize the husbandry environment and reproductive techniques.
